June Mar Fajardo emerged from the dugout at the Smart Araneta Coliseum seemingly devoid of life on Sunday, October 20.

This was after Ginebra scraped past San Miguel, 102-99 in Game 6 to advance to the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals.

“Wala e. Talo talaga. Ganun talaga yung basketball. May mananalo, may matatalo,” said Fajardo. “Congrats sa Ginebra. Maganda yung laro nila this series.”

With all his might, Fajardo tried to will his team and force a deciding Game 7.

But his 22 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block were not enough to get the Beermen over the hump.

As dominant as the Beermen have been the last decade, Fajardo said it’s just tough to get to the Finals now with a competitive field.

“Alam naman namin na sa kompetisyon ngayon sa PBA, mahirap makaabot sa finals. May shot sana kami kaso kinapos, eh,” he said.

But there’s not much time to sulk for the 6-foot-10 behemoth and the Beermen.

What they can do now is shift their focus on how the Beermen will rebound in the upcoming conferences.

“Bawi na lang kami. May mga next conferences pa naman, eh,” said Fajardo.

The Commissioner’s Cup is expected to unfurl late November.
