Deon Thompson made a smashing PBA debut for Rain or Shine last Wednesday, Dec. 4, against guest team Eastern.
Rain or Shine import Deon Thompson said he is already looking forward to going up against a former teammate in the ongoing PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
Thompson was talking about RJ Abarrientos.
The American-Ivorian reinforcement played alongside the budding Ginebra star with Shinshu Brave Warriors in the Japan B.League.
“I look forward to playing him. They (Gin Kings) played in the finals last conference. I know they’re a talented team,” Thompson said after helping Rain or Shine pick up its first win last Wednesday, Dec. 6.
Thompson has only praises reserved for the crafty guard, who was also a Rookie of the Year in the Korean Basketball League before taking his talents to the neighboring East Asian nation.
“He (Abarrientos) is a good player. I know a lot of fans love to watch him play. I like to watch him play,” said Thompson, who finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in his debut with the Elasto Painters.
“He’s very flashy, can create and make a show. He’s a fun player to watch.”

But Thompson will have to wait a little longer before his duel with the diminutive floor general.
This as Rain or Shine is slated to play the Gin Kings on January 22.
For now, Thompson will set his sights on the Elasto Painters' next game against San Miguel on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
