The Cignal HD Spikers will finish the 2023 PVL season with two bronze medals under their belt after taking down the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in four sets, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24, in Game 2 of the battle-for-third series at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Cignal started slow after going down a set to the Crossovers. However, the HD Spikers were able to pick themselves up right away to grab the second and third sets.

Come the fourth set, it was neck and neck between the two squads, but in the end, the HD Spikers had that extra kick to their step as they secured their fourth bronze medal in the PVL.

Cignal’s super rookie Vanie Gandler led the team in their bronze-winning victory, finishing with 22 points. Veterans Ces Molina and Jovelyn Gonzaga likewise had an outstanding game as they added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

“I’m just very very very happy because I know how tired we are, I know how much work we’ve put in. We sacrificed so much and today I really felt the fight from each player, each coach, up to the management,” Gandler said during the postmatch press conference.

Come next season, the goal for the HD Spikers is to finally get over the hump and reach the finals and bring home the franchise’s first PVL title.

But for that to happen, coach Shaq Delos Santos pointed out some things his team will need to work on.

“Siguro pagiging consistent every game, but siyempre, mangyayari lahat 'yun kapag mas in-improve namin mga practices namin,” said Delos Santos.

“Not only dun sa skills na meron, but hindi kami puwede mag-stop kung anong meron lang, Kailangan mas ma-discover namin paano namin i-improve as an individual and as a team,” he added.

It will, indeed, be a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for the HD Spikers, who may very well be looking at a brighter future ahead of them.
