There was so much hype surrounding former UAAP standout Eya Laure when she signed with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers last May. Seven months later, the hype has been justified as the UST Growling Tigresses product established herself as one of the PVL’s most prolific attackers. On Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum, Eya closed out her first stint as a pro by claiming a Best Outside Spiker trophy for the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.

Before getting her individual award, the Crossovers lost to the Cignal HD Spikers in the battle for bronze. Placing fourth overall was Chery Tiggo’s best finish for the season.

Chery Tiggo placed fifth and eighth in the first All-Filipino Conference and the PVL Invitationals, respectively.

Along with it, the 24-year-old star’s first tour of duty in the pros came a learning experience that she’s planning to utilize moving forward.

“Ang dami kong realizations na ang dami pa rin pa lang kulang sa akin. ‘Yung sakit ngayon ulit, parang mas na-motivate ako para sa mga next conferences,” Laure said in the postgame presser.

According to Eya, she’s ready to do it all in order he tolp her team keep progressing.

“Kung anuman ‘yung kulang sa’kin as a player, mapa-opposite ako, mapa-open ako, or minsan setter, depende (gagawin ko,),” bared Laure.

“‘Dun naman kasi ako pinalaki ni Coach Kung Fu (Reyes), kung anong posisyon ang ibigay sa’kin, kahit mid-season pa ‘yan mangyari, kaya kong dalhin ‘yung sarili ko para makatulong sa team,” she elaborated.

Reyes has been with Laure since her UAAP days with UST. Now, they’re taking their partnership to the next level, which is all about delivering a medal.

“Para sa mga susunod na conferences, sana maka-podium ‘yung Chery. Kasi bawat member ng Chery, gusto makatikim ng medal,“ Eya stressed.

Chery Tiggo’s trajectory has certainly been upward. Laure’s and her teammates’ wishes might just come to fruition pretty soon.
