It's Day 3 of 2024 and the fireworks of the PVL off-season have yet to die down. In fact, it's just getting started.
The Akari Chargers on Wednesday announced they have signed up veteran outside spiker Grethcel Soltones for the 2024 season.
Soltones had been a steady presence both in offense and defense for Petro Gazz, ranking as the seventh best scorer of the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference preliminaries with 152 points.
The outside spiker has been a reliable mentor to young libero Babylove Barbon, as Soltones ranked seventh in digs and eighth in reception.
However, the Petro Gazz Angels fell short in the conference and finished sixth.
Meanwhile, the seventh-ranked Akari is expected to conduct a shakeup with the resignation of Brazilian coach Jorge Souza de Brito.
Japanese tactician Takayuki Minowa, who led Akari's sister squad Nxled Chameleons to an impressive ninth place finish, will also become the Director of Volleyball operations for both squads. And the Chameleons have already lit up the PVL carousel by signing up former Cargo Mover Ivy Lacsina.
Meanwhile, the Angels have bolstered their ranks by picking up former Cargo Mover Ethan Arce.
