PVL's newest team introduced some of their players, including Jannine Navarro and Heather Guino-o.
The PVL on Thursday introduced the 12th team to enter the league, the Capital1 Power Spikers.
The team is owned by sisters Mandy and Milka Romero, daughters of sportsman and 1-Pacman Rep. Mikee Romero. He is also the owner of PBA team NorthPort Batang Pier.
The Romero sisters have tapped coach Roger Gorayeb of the San Sebastian Lady Stags to lead the team.
His aim for the team this season is fairly simple.
"Kung pwede ngayon pa lang, ayaw ko lang mag-land kami sa ilalim kasi bagong bago tong team na 'to eh," Gorayeb told reporters in a press conference.
The squad just conducted a two-day tryout earlier this week and will start formal training in San Sebastian next Monday.
"But, I will always lean on the experience," he said.
Also attending the press conference are some of Capital1's recruits, such as middle blocker Jannine Navarro from the Nxled Chameleons, as well as opposite spikers Heather Guino-o of the Petro Gazz Angels, and Rovee Instrella from the now-disbanded F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
They also confirmed the sign-up of former Philippine Army Lady Trooper Aiko Urdas and former PLDT High Speed Hitter Jorelle Singh.
Gorayeb says they have 23 players on their initial roster, which would have to be further cut to 20.
But he's not too burdened by the idea of starting from scratch ahead of the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference, which is expected to start on February 20.
"Maski sa Ateneo eh, nagsimula ako sa limang player lang. Tapos biglang andon na. If you will remember, yung Balipure, pinagsama ko lang yung Baste. What happened? On the first year, nag-finals kami, tapos nag-champion kami sa All-Filipino," he noted.
"'Yun lang na ganyang experience ko, bibitbitin ko lahat dito. Alam mo naman 'yung reputation ko sa ganyan, medyo mahigpit ako sa ensayo."
