Middle blocker Lorraine Pecaña will prove to be a valuable piece for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans with Cherry Nunag expected to be out for the Reinforced Conference.
Rookie Lorraine Pecaña will have big shoes to fill right away as she joins the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the upcoming PVL 2024 Reinforced Conference.
Pecaña was selected 11th overall by Choco Mucho in the inaugural PVL Rookie Draft on Monday night at the Novotel in Quezon City.
The 5-foot-11 was the Flying Titan’s lone draft selection as coach Dante Alinsunurin and his staff decided to pass on selecting another player in the second round.
After hearing her name called in the first round, the former Arellano University Lady Chiefs standout still seemingly couldn’t believe that she would finally make the pros.
“Sobrang kinakabahan ako tapos sobrang happy ko rin po sa tiwalang binigay sa akin ng Choco Mucho. Pinapangako ko sa kanila na hindi ko po yun sasayangin,” Pecaña told reporters after being drafted.
“Actually, ‘di ko po ineexpect yung first round na ako yung nasa first choice nila,” she added.
Under Choco Mucho, Pecaña will be guided by well-known middle blockers such as Maddie Madayag and Cherry Nunag, both of whom she considers her idols.
“Actually, sila ‘yung mga tinitingala ko na middle blockers,” said Pecaña. “Since nung mag start ako mag-volleyball, sila ‘yung pinapangarap ko na maka team or makalaban.”
Pecaña will also work under Alinsunurin, who has guided Choco Mucho to back-to-back PVL finals appearances.
“Gusto ko po kay coach Dante is kung paano niya binibigyan ng chance ‘yung mga players niya, and kung papaano rin siya magtiwala sa mga players,” said Pecaña.
With Nunag and Sisi Rondina expected to be out due to national team duties, Pecaña could already see some playing time for the title-hungry Flying Titans.
