Gel Cayuna continues to reign among the setters in the PVL after bagging her 4th Best Setter award during the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.

Cayuna is now the most decorated setter since the PVL went pro in 2021, with Jia de Guzman bagging three Best Setter awards before leaving for Japan.

Despite this incredible feat, Cayuna remains laser-focused on the Cignal HD Spikers’ ultimate goal: to win a championship.

“Masaya ako kasi una na-appreciate 'yung hardwork ko pero siyempre kahit naka-apat na Best Setter award na ako, hindi pa rin dun nagtatapos eh,” Cayuna told One Sports.

“Meron pa akong goal talaga which is 'yung mag champion. Sana makuha na namin soon and ako pa-promise ko na hindi ako titigil, pupursigi pa ako,” she added.

The HD Spikers came close during this Reinforced Conference. In fact, they were just a point away in the fourth set of their semifinal clash against eventual champions Creamline Cool Smashers.

But as fate would have it, Cignal would fall short once more, eventually snatching the bronze medal, their 5th in PVL history.

Cayuna was hailed the Player of the Game with 16 excellent sets and eight points.

The HD Spikers will have another shot at bringing home their first-ever PVL title in the ongoing Invitational Conference, where they will compete against four other teams.

With their semifinal heartbreak and another Best Setter award in the bag, Cayuna is extra motivated to lead her squad to the mountaintop.

“Every conference naman nagpapa-motivate talaga sakin 'yung mga kasama ko din,” said Cayuna. “Para sa part ko, gagawin ko talaga 'yung best ko para madala ko din 'yung mga kasama ko sa championship and finals.”
