Philippine volleyball fans can easily fill arenas and stadiums.
To say that volleyball fans in the Philippines are loyal is an understatement. These supporters will line up for hours to see their idols, and thousands regularly flock arenas to cheer and scream after breathtaking plays.
Just this Saturday, the much-anticipated collision between the F2 Logistcis Cargo Movers and the PVL All-Filipino Conference defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers drew a huge crowd. And Cargo Movers coach Regine Diego herself was shocked with the turnout of supporters at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
"Grabe, hindi ko akalain na ganyan kadami 'yung (fans)," Diego said.
Fans of the F2 Logistics went home happier though, as the team in yellow closed out a thrilling five-set win to improve to a 3-1 win-loss card.
Although outnumbered by Creamline fans, Diego knew the critical role of their supporters on the sidelines.
"Grabe 'yung fans ng Creamline, I respect you guys. Grabe 'yung support niyo sa team niyo. And also sa F2 Logistics supporters, kahit na hindi kayo kasing dami ng Creamline, talagang pinush nila mag-support sa amin, sobrang nakaka-proud."
The F2 Logistics mentor was also asked by reporters if the games should be moved to bigger venues to accommodate more fans. Diego answered with, "Beke nemen."
According to the PVL website, games are scheduled to be played at the PhilSports Arena, FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan and one game date in Iloilo City. Fans and players might have to wait for the playoffs before action shifts to the Araneta Coliseum or the MOA Arena.
