The Lady Spikers got that tunnel vision going on.
The De La Salle University Lady Spikers completed the first-round sweep of the UAAP Season 85 Women’s Volleyball Tournament in spectacular fashion. Crushing the National University Lady Bulldogs in straight sets, the ladies from Taft reiterated that they are the team to beat at the moment. On paper, their seventh victory seemed like a huge deal, especially because they defeated the reigning champs who were unbeaten last year.
That said, La Salle’s Fifi Sharma isn’t one to make a fuss out of their latest triumph. The team’s goal is much bigger after all.
“We still have to focus on our singular goal, which is to get the championship this season. So, ‘wag masiyadong i-sensationalize ‘yung mga win like this,” the star middle blocker said after the showdown with NU.
Wise beyond her years, the 21-year-old Sharma thoroughly explained the approach they need to make in order to accomplish their main objective.
“Because there are many other games we have to go through in order to get to what we need to achieve, so ano lang, one game at a time. All my teammates know that. So, I’m confident how we’re going to handle the pressure.”
In the win versus the Lady Bulldogs, Sharma, Angel Canino, and Jolina Dela Cruz combined for 37 points while getting excellent sets from Lady Spikers captain Mars Alba. It was a stunning display of volleyball from coach Noel Orcullo’s players yet again. Other teams will really have to step their games up in the next round if they want to catch up to the number one team.
