Expect a much-improved Michael Phillips this year.
Incoming De La Salle Green Archers junior Michael Phillips is a student of the game, and he's not shy in admitting that he has a lot to learn.
During a lengthy offseason that saw him don the national team colors and win gold in the Southeast Asian Games, Phillips said he worked pretty hard in one aspect of his game.
"Free throws," the big man told One News' The Game.
"'Yun talaga ang pinaghirapan natin."
Phillips is expected to improve in a lot of aspects and take the lead for the Green Archers. He is already a rebounding monster in the league and even tallied 26 boards in a game against the UE Red Warriors in Season 84 where he was selected one of the Mythical Five members.
"Just the focus to the game. It's my third year now, I really wanna help as much as I can. Just trying to be that locker room guy for everybody, keeping the team together."
Phillips and the Green Archers want nothing less but a trip to the UAAP finals this coming Season 86. La Salle fell to eventual champions UP Fighting Maroons in the Final Four during Phillips' first year with the squad. They missed the semifinals entirely last season after losing to the Adamson Soaring Falcons in the playoff for the fourth spot.
The UAAP Season 86 is set to start on September 30.
