’He’s a blessing to have’: Kevin Quiambao records second triple-double as La Salle edges UE

By now, any doubt about what La Salle Green Archers main man Kevin Quiambao can do on a basketball court should be squashed. Quiambao is simply in a league of his own.

The MVP frontrunner does everything on the court, and that was none more evident than his triple-double performance in La Salle's 86-76 win over UE Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday.

The 6-foot-8 forward finished with 17 points, 19 rebounds, 12 assists—his second triple-double this season. He also added four steals and two blocks.

The Season 85 Rookie of the Year conspired with Mark Nonoy, who topscored for La Salle with 25 points on seven triples, as the Green Archers extended their win streak to six for a 9-3 record.

Coach Topex Robinson has praised Quiambao one too many times already since the season started. But his recent performance warranted another compliment from the eloquent mentor.

“Kevin is really a blessing to have. For coaches, you have a coach’s dream, and he’s one of those guys I’m fortunate to coach,” he said after the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

His impressive work, it turns out, is not limited to the parquet floor. Robinson shared how Quiambao leads by example during practice, which “shows how much he really cares for the team.”

“One good thing about him is, sabi nga ni Mark (Nonoy), he makes everybody around him look good,” he said of the Nikola Jokic fan. “He ups the level of the team. Kasi kung ‘yung leader mo hindi nagpapahinga, mahihiya ‘yung mga kasama. That’s the energy that he brings to us.”

Quiambao, on the other hand, deflected credit to the rest of Green Archers, as he has always done.

“Itong katabi ko dito ‘yung nag unleash ng potential ko. Sobrang grateful ako sa kanilang lahat,” Quiambao said.

Quiambao and the Green Archers will gun for a seventh straight victory when they face FEU Tamaraws on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
