The DLSU Lady Spikers earn their second straight win with another sweep over the FEU Lady Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament.
La Salle eased past Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22, to pick up its second straight victory in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.
The Lady Spikers thus followed up on their strong opening game win over Adamson, which the reigning champion also took in straight sets, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18, last Saturday.
Angel Canino once again led the offense for DLSU, putting up 13 points she laced with seven receptions.
Shevana Laput contributed 10 markers anchored on eight spikes and two blocks while Thea Gagate also had two denials in her eight-point output for the Lady Spikers. Alleiah Malaluan chipped in seven points, respectively.
Lyka Mae De Leon patrolled the DLSU floor with 16 digs and 12 receptions.
The Lady Spikers seized control right from the get-go, keeping the Lady Tamaraws at bay for a commanding two-set buffer.
In the third set, DLSU had to ward off an early fightback by FEU, which tied the count at 10-all, before creating a 19-13 separation.
The Lady Tamaraws refused to go down without a fight, however, as they whittled the deficit down to a solitary point, 22-23. FEU's Ann Asis, though, floundered with an error before Gagate nailed the game-clinching service bomb.
DLSU may have ended the bout via a one-hour-and-twenty-eight-minute sweep, but it was an error-strewn performance from the Lady Spikers, who surrendered 28 mistakes to FEU's 22.
"Lahat naman po kami sa team, nakukulangan pa sa laro namin, which means kailangan pa po naming magdoble-kayod talaga sa training. Kasi marami pa po kaming lapses, marami po kaming errors na puwedeng maiwasan inside the court," Canino said.
Meanwhile, no Lady Tamaraw breached double-digit territory in scoring.
Gerzel Petallo had a team-high seven-point outing, while Bakanke, Asis, Chenie Tagaod and Alyzza Devosora managed six markers apiece for FEU.
The Lady Spikers aim to keep their unbeaten slate when they collide with University of Santo Tomas on Sunday, Feb. 25.
The Lady Tamaraws, winner in their opening assignment over University of the Philippines, will try to regain their winning ways when they take on University of the East also on the same day.
Games will air live on One Sports, One Sports+ and the Pilipinas Live app.
