UAAP: Ateneo pulls off thrilling five-set comeback vs. UP for first win in Season 86

The Ateneo Blue Eagles pulled off an incredible five-set comeback to snatch their first win in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament, overcoming the UP Fighting Maroons, 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, February 28.

The Fighting Maroons started off strong as they took control of the first and second set with Joan Monares and Steph Bustrillo powering their way against the Blue Eagles.

Down two sets, the Blue Eagles managed to claw their way back into the game after brilliant performances by Sobe Buena and Lyann De Guzman.

Come the deciding fifth, Ateneo also started strong and built a 10-4 lead.

With momentum on their side, the Blue Eagles continued to power their way against the Fighting Maroons as Zel Tsunashima's attack sealed the huge comeback win for Ateneo.

De Guzman had an all-around game for the Blue Eagles with 24 points built on 19 attacks, four blocks, and one service ace to go along with 11 excellent digs and 18 excellent receptions.

Steph Bustrillo, meanwhile, had 17 points for the Fighting Maroons.

With the win, Ateneo moves to 1-2 in the standings, while UP remains winless in Season 86 with a 0-3 record.
