Five biggest storylines from Week 2 of UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball

Week 2 of UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball brought forth a whirlwind of hard-hitting action, drama, and thrilling turns. 

From suspensions to spectacular comebacks, here are the five biggest storylines that captivated fans over the past week.

1. Coach Jerry Yee’s suspension

The sudden temporary suspension of UE Lady Red Warriors coach Jerry Yee for Season 86 rocked the volleyball community.

With his absence felt on the sidelines, UE fell short in its comeback bid against the Adamson Lady Falcons, bowing in four sets.

Despite this, the Lady Warriors are eager to find their bearings once more in the tournament.

2. UST’s thrilling five-set comeback

In a match filled with tension and excitement, the UST Golden Tigresses staged a remarkable five-set comeback against the FEU Lady Tamaraws.

UST’s resilience and determination was on full display as they clawed their way back from the brink of defeat, ultimately clinching a thrilling victory that left fans in awe.

Coach Kungfu Reyes even hailed the team's stay ready mindset after fielding in several of its bench players which contributed to the team's win.

3. La Salle’s mastery over Ateneo continues

The age-old rivalry between the DLSU Lady Spikers and the Ateneo Blue Eagles took center stage once again, with La Salle asserting its dominance on the court. 

With their dominant win over Ateneo, La Salle has now won 13-straight games over its rivals dating back to 2017.

4. Back-to-back straight wins for NU

The NU Lady Bulldogs have found their form in Week 2, securing back-to-back straight-set wins over the Adamson Lady Falcons and the UP Fighting Maroons

After their slow start in Season 86, NU has sent out sending a clear message to their competitors that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.

5. Ateneo gets one back against former coach

In a highly anticipated matchup, the Blue Eagles faced off against former coach Oliver Almadro and the Fighting Maroons.

Despite going down two sets, Ateneo rose to the occasion as they secured a hard-fought five-set victory that boosted the young squad’s spirit for Season 86.

Expect even greater action come Week 3 of UAAP Season 86.

The UE Lady Warriors take on the DLSU Lady Spikers, while the FEU Lady Tamaraws battle the NU Lady Bulldogs to kick off Week 3 on Wednesday, March 6.

These will be aired on One Sports, the UAAP Varsity Channel, and the Pilipinas Live app.
