Is Angel Canino getting closer to a return for the DLSU Lady Spikers? Assistant coach Noel Orcullo gives some updates after La Salle's win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Sunday, April 21.
As the De La Salle Lady Spikers warmed up for their match against Ateneo de Manila University, reigning MVP Angel Canino was spotted doing digging and spiking drills with her teammates. It's was her first time doing active volleyball drills at the venue since she injured her arm.
But while Canino once again didn't see action in the Lady Spikers' dominant win over the Blue Eagles, assistant coach Noel Orcullo did give some positive updates on the 5-foot-11 outside hitter's health.
"Maganda naman 'yung progress ng recovery niya. So far, nagthe-therapy naman na siya so hopefully makabalik siya. Hindi naman sa game sa UST, sa semis," Orcullo said during the post-game press conference.
When asked about whether there were plans to field in Canino in the game versus Ateneo, Orcullo had a quick reply.
"Wala pa sa plano," said Orcullo.
But even without Canino, La Salle finally showed championship form against Ateneo, much to the delight of the coaching staff.
"Ang ganda nung nilaro nila, sobrang pulido although may mga konting lapses towards the third set pero 'yung first two sets, nakita namin, 'yun 'yung hinahanap naming game sa kanila eh," said Orcullo.
"Lagi naming sinasabi sa kanila na huwag lang aalis sa sistema basta tuloy-tuloy lang kung ano 'yung inaaral namin kada training, kada practice [na] dapat mai-apply sa game," he added.
