Hours after UAAP Finals loss, two-time MVP Kevin Quiambao takes the first step towards making it to the NBA by going pro in the Korean Basketball League.
La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao hopes his latest move to turn professional in Korea helps him make his case for his ultimate destination: The NBA.
Hours after losing to the UP Fighting Maroons in Game 3 of the UAAP Season 87 Finals, Quiambao made his career move known on social media, and framed it towards his pursuit of making it to the NBA.
After completing his list of thanks to those who shaped his career in La Salle, including head coach Topex Robinson, Quiambao mentioned the NBA in his decision to forgo his final two years of eligibility for the Green Archers.
By turning pro with the Soyang Gono Skygunners, he joins his good pal Carl Tamayo in the KBL.
“With that being said, My college career comes to an end, i will Pursue my NBA dream and start my journey by playing professional ball in Goyang Sono SkyGunners and developing my game even more,” said the 23-year-old.
Recently, players have been exploring other pathways to the NBA apart from the US NCAA -- including Asian leagues like the KBL, and more notably the Japan B.LEAGUE.
Current Memphis Grizzlies guard Yuki Kawamura dominated the B.LEAGUE as MVP before signing with the Grizzlies this year.
In La Salle's Game 3 loss against UP, Quiambao tallied 13 points and four rebounds after being limited coming off of his Game 2 heroics which helped La Salle force the decider Sunday night.
Quiambao thus ends his UAAP career as a one-time champion and Finals MVP, two-time MVP, and former UAAP Rookie of the Year.
He joins a SkyGunners side who are currently 10th in the KBL with a 5-13 slate.
