The FEU Lady Tamaraws grabbed solo second place in UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball after a straight-set victory over the UE Lady Warriors, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23, in their second round encounter at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Wednesday.

The Lady Tamaraws, who are now winners of back-to-back games, improved to 6-3--a game ahead of fellow Final Four contenders UST (5-3) and La Salle (5-3).

FEU did its part in stymying a win-hungry UE side, which threatened to extend the match late in the third canto when they seized the 21-20 lead off of an attack from Van Bangayan.

Things continued to be neck-and-neck until 23-all after an error from FEU put the two sides level. But Gerz Petallo and Chenie Tagaod scored on back-to-back rallies to effectively shut the door on UE and give themselves the win.

FEU thus pushed UE on the brink of elimination from Final Four contention.

Three different players finished in double-digit scoring for FEU with Jaz Ellarina top scoring with 17 points.

Petallo had a double-double of 15 points and 15 excellent digs. She also had eight excellent receptions.

Tagaod, for her part, added 15 markers, six excellent digs, and 11 excellent receptions.

Khy Cepada flirted with the triple-double in UE’s loss with 13 points, 11 excellent digs, and eight excellent receptions.

UE remains winless at 0-9.
