After serving as UAAP basketball commissioner for two seasons, Xavy Nunag stepped down from his position.
UAAP basketball commissioner Xavy Nunag has stepped down from his post, the collegiate league announced on Saturday.
After spending two years as hoops commissioner, Nunag tendered his resignation to focus on “other business pursuits”, according to the UAAP. This will be effective April 18.
During his tenure, Nunag oversaw all divisions of the league’s basketball tournaments, with deputy commissioners Atty. Mariana Lopa for the women’s and high school girls’ divisions, and Marvin Bienvenida for the high school boys and junior high school boys divisions.
“On behalf of the UAAP, we extend our deepest gratitude to Commissioner Xavy Nunag for his service to the league,” said UAAP Season 87 Treasurer Dolreich "Bo" Perasol of host school UP.
“His leadership introduced meaningful innovations in our basketball officiating and tournament management, and we are truly thankful for the dedication and professionalism he brought to the role.”
Before becoming commissioner in Season 86, he first served as the acting commissioner for the UAAP Season 85 High School Boys’ Basketball Tournaments.
“It has been a pleasure working with Commissioners Xavy and Atty. Mariana. Their contributions have greatly elevated the standard of our basketball tournaments,” said UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag Jr.
Atty. Lopa has also stepped down earlier this year to pursue another direction in her career in sports.
Bienvenida, for his part, has been designated as acting basketball commissioner for the upcoming 3x3 basketball tournaments in May.
“We are confident that Commissioner Marvin will continue the fine work they have started as we get ready for the 3x3 season. Maraming salamat.” said Saguisag.
