Alas Pilipinas are off to their best start in recent national team history after posting a 4-0 record to end the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup preliminaries.

After sitting out the previous match, the well-rested Eya Laure delivered another stellar outing for Alas, finishing with 15 points on 12 attacks, one block, and two service aces in a sweeping win over Chinese Taipei Sunday.

With practically no days off in the tournament, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers star knows how important rest is for the team.

“I think lahat naman kasi naka-plano. Ngayon, sila ate Sisi [Rondina], Angel [Canino], Fifi [Sharma] nag-rest para hindi din masunog,” Laure told reporters after the match.

“Knowing naman 'yung team namin is kaya mag-contribute bawa't isa. Tiwala kami sa bawa't isa,” she added.

It’s been nothing but euphoria, to say the least, for the Philippines after making history by advancing to the semifinals of the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup.

But even with the dream start, Laure made it clear that Alas is not done just yet.

“Nandito na kami so hindi na kami titigil na gumawa ng history para sa Philippine volleyball,” said Laure.

With just a short preparation time for the tournament, the 25-year-old outside hitter knows that the team can only get more dangerous with more reps under them.

“Siyempre, I think maiksi palang 'yung time na nagkasama-sama kami pero pag dumating 'yung time na mas mahaba na 'yung time na nagkaroon kami ng bonding, ng gelling, of course, mas mabubuo pa 'yung teamwork pa namin,” said Laure.

“'Yung nakikita niyo ngayon, I think mas mahihigitan pa ito,” she added.

Alas Pilipinas will face Kazakhstan in the semifinals, and they hope to make even more history by advancing to the Finals.

But for now, it’s back to the drawing board for the national team before their match on Tuesday, May 28, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila at 7:00 p.m.

“Balik lang ulit kami sa training. Kung ano ibigay samin ni coach Jorge [de Brito], ng mga coaches namin, magsti-stick lang kami sa system na ibibigay nila at ita-try namin iapply kung anoman 'yung mga napag-usapan namin,” said Laure.
