A training camp littered with cutthroat competition?

That’s what Hidilyn Diaz wants to experience when she hits the ground running in the United States as part of her buildup for the 2024 Olympics.

Diaz bared she’s going to train with fellow Olympians from the US and Canada.

“Sa Malaysia kasi nasa probinsya kami. Now we're together with the fellow Olympians ng US and hoping isang taga-Canada ay pupunta,” she said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards on Monday. “Sa training pa lang may competition na.”

The Olympic gold medalist added, “Kung may makita kang kaya niya, kaya ko rin. Pakitang-gilas kasi... may malakas kang kasama.”

The competitive environment will allow the country’s weightlifting queen to “focus” as she vies for another gold in the Paris games next year.

“'Yung focus ko as an athlete is to really focus, to stay away muna sa lahat,” she said. “Kasi kailangan ko talagang mag-back to basics na gawin ko lang is kain-tulog-training."

"'Yung environment na para makapag-perform ako nang maayos, kailangan good food, good sleep, good environment para magkaroon ng good performance,” she added.

The Zamboangueña received her fourth Athlete of the Year Award in the PSA, becoming one of only four athletes to be a recipient of the prestigious award at least four times.
