More eyes will be watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
50 days left before the FIFA Women’s World Cup—and the level of anticipation for the debut of the Philippine women's national football team in the world stage is just about to go through the roof.
Organizers reported that ticket sales are closing in on the one million mark, a significant milestone at this point of the World Cup build-up.
As of Wednesday, over 850,000 tickets have already been purchased for the event taking place in Australia and New Zealand.
"2023 is going to be a landmark moment for women's football,” said FIFA secretary-general Fatma Samoura, highlighting the importance of this achievement for women's football.
A FIFA representative reportedly told BBC Sport that they expect to reach the milestone of one million tickets sold within the next few weeks.
The ninth edition of the tournament aims to achieve a record-breaking 1.5 million ticket sales and attract a global television audience of two billion viewers. In 2019, the Women's World Cup had 1.12 billion viewers, per FIFA.
This only means that more fans around the world get to see the Filipinas, who are ramping up their preparations for the biggest football tournament in the world.
They have their work cut out for them, especially after a letdown in recent Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia, where they failed to bring home a medal.
Despite this, the 49th-ranked team in the world is ready to shock the world and score some upsets when it takes on Switzerland, New Zealand, and Norway in Group A.
In fact, the Swiss have already made it clear that they are not taking the Filipinas lightly.
