New chapter for the Filipinas superstars.
Several key Filipinas who represented the country in a historic FIFA Women's World Cup are noticeably absent in the latest call-up for the upcoming Asian Games.
Among the 28 players called, only 8 were holdovers from the FIFA Women's World Cup squad, with 8 returnees from past tournaments, and 12 newcomers.
Among those missing are the sisters Olivia and Chandler McDaniel, and defender Angela Beard.
Recent club development might explain their absence.
Swedish club Linkoping FC announced on Instagram its signing of Beard.
"Now we strengthen up the backline with [FIFA Women's] World Cup player Angela Beard," the translation of the club's post said.
"Beard is born in Australia, has most recently played for the Philippine national team, and comes closest from Western United FC in the Australian A-League."
Linkoping FC will start its campaign this month.
Meanwhile, the McDaniels will reportedly play for the FC Pinzgau Saalfelden of Austria.
The club has yet to officially announce the signing but the siblings can be seen in the team's training camp posts.
With the other Filipinas members busy with club duties, veterans like
Hali Long and Jaclyn Sawicki are expected to lead the national team as the
Mark Torcaso era begins.
