Manong Kiefer dispensing sage advice again.
Trust “Manong” Kiefer Ravena to dish off some sage advice, not only about basketball, but also about life in general.
He isn’t known as “Manong” for nothing, after all.
And, on Sunday, in an Instagram post, Ravena seemingly implored his fans to “wabi-sabi.”
Said post included a series of pictures that precede the final image: a quote card giving the definition of the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi: A noun that means “find peace and beauty in imperfections.”
“Accept that the concept of flawlessness is flawed and nothing perfect, including yourself and others,” the card further said. “Instead of striving for perfection, find joy in the imperfections that make our life unique.”
Now, whatever imperfections Ravena is alluding to in his own life journey is his to accept. But it is safe to say Manong Kiefer has found peace and beauty.
Let’s count the ways:
Fur babies at home? Check.
Delicious home-cooked food like adobo? Check.
A loving girlfriend? Double check.
A team—the Shiga Lakes of the B2 League in Japan—that has got his back? Check.
Supportive fans? Check, check.

Again, no one’s saying Ravena’s life is perfect. Nobody’s life ever is. But he is certainly finding joy in the imperfections and living the life in the process—and proving doubters wrong along the way as well.
That's Manong Kief, y'all!
