Defending Korean Basketball League (KBL) champion Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters escaped with a 74-72 victory over Busan KCC Egis on Tuesday at the Anyang Indoor Stadium. Aside from winning back-to-back games to earn a 4-3 slate in the new KBL season, the reigning titleholders have another memorable takeaway from their thrilling triumph. It comes in the form of a unique highlight, courtesy of Filipino high-flyer Rhenz Abando.

We all know that the former NCAA MVP can get up and dunk the ball with the best of them. No matter what the stage is, FIBA World Cup included, Abando can throw it down in style. Against KCC Egis, the pride of Santo Tomas, La Union saw an opening and did something rarely seen in basketball.

What did he exactly do? Well, he dunked on his own teammate. Whether or not he did it on purpose is up for debate. The guy was standing near the rim as Abando took off from the baseline. It may have been a classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The poor recipient of Rhenz’s hammer was American cager Du’Vaugn Maxwell.

Coincidentally, Rhenz and Duvee have some sort of connection as the latter used to play in the Philippines, specifically for the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the PBA. With that, Maxwell took Abando’s slam over him in stride. He actually thought it was hilarious.

If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have posted it on his Instagram stories, would he?

Amid his unusual high-wire act, Abando contributed 16 points, seven rebounds, one steal, and one block in Anyang’s win. Maxwell meanwhile, added 14 markers and seven boards as well.
