A performance to remember!
The Meralco Bolts finally grabbed their first win in the EASL after their miraculous 97-88 overtime win over the Ryukyu Golden Kings.
It looked as if the Golden Kings were on their way to another win in the tournament, however, Chris Newsome had other plans.
Trailing by two possessions with only 10 seconds left in regulation, Meralco was able to draw up a play for Newsome where he would go on to hit a crazy four-point play to tie the score and send the game to overtime.
In the extra period, the Gilas Pilipinas guard continued to lead the Bolts as he hit two consecutive clutch jumpers to extend their lead to nine with just about a minute to go in the game.
This proved to be the difference as Meralco snatched their long-awaited victory in the tournament.
Newsome finished the game with 27 points on 8-of-9 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds.
Of course, his teammates and coaches had to hype up Newsome following his jaw-dropping performance in the clutch.
Bong Quinto, for one, had to show some love to his “kuya” as he reposted Newsome’s game highlights in his Instagram story.
“Wow @new11new, (love you) kuya,” Quinto wrote on his post.
Raymond Almazan, meanwhile, showed a clip of Newsome entering their locking room after the game where he dapped up all his teams. This includes his special handshake with the 34-year-old big man.
Coach Luigi Trillo, on the other hand, showed another side to Newsome’s loveable personality as he signed some shoes before their game against Ryukyu.
The Bolts will definitely be using this huge win of theirs in their upcoming games both in the EASL and PBA.
Next up for Meralco will be against the Converge FiberXers on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
