Matthew Wright is testing free agency in Japan.

Kyoto Hannaryz announced that Wright has entered free agency in the B.League following his second season in Japan.

After six years in the PBA with the Phoenix Fuel Masters, Wright signed with the Hannaryz in 2022 as part of the B.League’s Asian Quota Player movement.

In two seasons in Kyoto, Wright submitted consistent numbers. He averaged 13.4 points per game in his first year, and then put up 13.1 points per game this past season.

Among all Pinoy Asian Quota Players in Japan and Korea, Wright holds the single-game record with 37 points, achieved in a win vs. Saga this season. In the same game, he also made eight triples, his career-high as a professional.

While he’s entered free agency, the Hannaryz said that they are in negotiation to bring Wright back.

Also entering free agency is AJ Edu.

Edu played his first year as a professional with the Toyama Grouses, although his rookie season only lasted 14 games after suffering a torn meniscus.

Edu will enter free agency as his contract with expire on June 30. He averaged 13.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 steals in his limited stint.

Toyama was demoted and will play in the B2 next season.
