Iran's dream run in the 2024 VNL Manila Leg continues after it fended off the Netherlands in five sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Thursday, June 20.

Despite a challenging start to the tournament with a 0-8 record, Iran showcased its resilience by securing the team's second-straight win, a remarkable victory over the Nimir Abdel-Aziz-led Netherlands.

In the fifth set, Iran started on a strong note after a 3-0 start but was quickly countered by the Netherlands.

The world no. 15, however, did not falter as outside hitter Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh and team captain Milad Ebadipour combined to give Iran a five-point lead at 10-5.

Nimir tried his best to close the gap for the Dutch. But in the end, it was Milad's strategic tip block that sealed the win for Iran, giving them their second win in the tournament.

Amin led the way for the Iranian squad with 29 points on 25 attacks, three blocks, and one service ace. Poriya added 27 markers, while Milad had 13 in the huge win.

After his 38-point outing against Brazil on Tuesday, Nimir finished with 37 points on 27 attacks, one block, and nine service aces in the losing effort.

Maarten Van Garderen was the Netherlands’ next top scorer with 17 points.

Up next for Iran will be France tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., while the Netherlands will go up against Japan at 7:00 p.m.
