After falling short in their first match, Team USA did not disappoint their Filipino supporters this time around. They closed out Brazil in a thrilling five-set victory, 25-21,18-25, 25-21,22-25,15-9, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Thursday night, June 20.

With thousands of fans coming out once more to watch the fan-favorite Americans play in their second game in Manila, team captain Micah Christenson couldn’t help but appreciate the support they’ve been getting since arriving in the country.

“I can't say enough about the support. It's something that I've talked about it before, but we felt it a lot,” Christenson told reporters after the match.

“Never even being here in the Philippines, so now we're finally here and we get to feel it in the stadium. It's something really, really special, and we can't thank the fans enough for being here and supporting us,” he added.

After the interviews, Christenson gamely accommodated their supporters at the fan zone, taking photos and signing autographs.

Amid all the love they’ve received, the 31-year-old setter had a short but sweet message for their Filipino fans.

“Salamat po for all the support and everything. We really appreciate you guys,” said Christenson.

The Olympic-bound USA improved to a 4-6 record for 11th place, with two more games to go in the 2024 VNL Manila Leg.

Christenson is hoping that they can continue improving to keep their VNL Finals hopes alive and find their solid form heading into the Paris Olympics next month.

“We're taking a right step into the right direction. We're not where we want to be but it's a first building block of where we want to go,” said Christenson.

Team USA will have a day off before they face Germany on Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m.
