Jean Patry enjoyed the support from the Filipino volleyball supporters as France grabbed its first win in the Philippine leg of VNL 2024.
France is back to its winning ways after grabbing win number one in the 2024 VNL Manila Leg with a clean straight-sets win over Iran, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Friday, June 21.
The reigning Olympic champions avenged their four-set defeat to Germany on Wednesday, with opposite spiker Jean Patry leading the way with 16 markers built on 13 attacks, two blocks, and one service ace.
“It was important for us to play a good game today after one day rest,” Patry told One Sports after the match.
“It was important to find a new victory and continue to work for our goal to go in [the VNL] Finals,” he added.
Shortly after, Patry was greeted by warm cheers from the Filipino crowd waiting at the fan zone, where the 29-year-old French spiker gamely took photos and signed autographs.
“The Philippine fans are amazing. They are here, they like the atmosphere. They like to be in the match, they like to support, so the fans are amazing,” said Patry.
With their Olympic qualification already secured as the hosts of the Summer Games, Patry and the rest of the French squad will look to clinch their spot in the VNL Finals in their upcoming games.
Up next for France will be fan-favorites Japan tomorrow, June 22, at 7:00 p.m.
