Matthew Wright is also staying put in Japan’s B.League Division 1.

 

The Fil-Canadian guard has found a new home, signing with the Kawasaki Brave Thunders on Tuesday, the team announced.

 

 

“It is an honour to be a part of a basketball club that's been around since 1950, and one of the most prestigious in all of Japan,” Wright said in the team announcement of his transfer from the Kyoto Hannaryz.

“I choose Kawasaki because it is one of the most historic and winning programs in Japan and a very strong team and organization with much respect all over the league,” he added.

The Brave Thunders are perennial contenders, making the B1 Playoffs six times. Not counting the COVID-stopped tournament in 2020, last season was the first time Kawasaki missed the postseason.

 

Nevertheless, the team finished with a 33-27 record, making it eight straight years of winning seasons. Since becoming a B1 team, Kawasaki has won its division three times and the Emperor’s Cup twice.

 

In the whole history of the Brave Thunders, they have won the Emperor’s Cup five times.
