Two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao sees his professional debut cut short due to injury playing against Juan Gomez de Liaño's Seoul SK Knights in the KBL.
Kevin Quiambao’s KBL debut lasted for just seven minutes as he exited with an apparent ankle injury in the second quarter of the Goyang Sono Skygunners’ 81-49 blowout loss to the Seoul SK Knights Sunday.
Quiambao had just started to get his rhythm going, hitting two threes in six minutes, before landing on Seoul’s Oh Se-keun after attempting a three with 7:44 left in the quarter. At that point, the SK Knights were ahead, 30-29.
Writhing in pain, Quiambao left the game and didn’t return for the rest of the match as Goyang unravelled against the league-leading Knights.
Quiambao had six points and one rebound to mark his first professional game.
In the fourth quarter, the Skygunners managed only two points as they ended up with just 12 markers in the second half.
Taking advantage of the misfiring Skygunners, Seoul Filipino import Juan Gomez de Liaño was able to get extended playing time, which he made sure to take advantage of as he finished with eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and one block.
Five different Seoul players logged double digits in the statement victory which cemented the SK Knights' status as the top team, and are now winners of seven straight with a 22-6 record.
Meanwhile, Goyang has lost four straight games and is 9-20 for the season.
Goyang returns on Wednesday against the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, before going on a short All-Star break. Seoul, for its part, play again on Tuesday against Anyang.
