The PLDT High Speed Hitters' reverse sweep attempt came up just short as Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin C VC came alive in the fifth set to secure top spot in Pool D of the 2025 AVC Women's Champions League.
The PLDT High Speed Hitters caught sight of the top spot in Pool D in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League against Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin C VC at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, April 22.
But it came out of reach as they fell short against the Thailand-based team, 24-26, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-9.
Down two sets, the High Speed Hitters showed great resilience by claiming the third and fourth frames to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
However, come the final frame, the Thai-based squad showed no signs of faltering after taking an early 5-2 lead behind locals Tichakorn Boonlert and Sasipapron Janthawisut.
But PLDT came right back with their own run to retake the lead at 7-6 after Wilma Salas’ cross-court attack.
However, costly errors, which included a center line fault and three attack errors from Salas, put Nakhon firmly in front at 14-9.
Saowapha Soosuk capped off the 7-1 run to seal the game with a service ace.
Savi Davison put up 25 points in the loss, while Salas contributed 19 markers.
Nakhon will finish Pool D as the top seed, where they will face the Creamline Cool Smashers in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, PLDT will go up against Pool A’s top seed Zhetysu VC in the next round.
