Stephan Schröck has done a great deal for Philippine football since his debut in 2011.
Philippine Azkals skipper Stephan Schrock chalked up his first international goal at the Rizal Stadium. In his final game in a national team uniform, he set up Sebastian Rasmussen, who nailed a header in the 82nd minute at the same venue.
Unfortunately, the Philippines still fell victim at the hands of Indonesia, 1-2, in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Mitsubishi Electric Cup on Monday.
It was a non-bearing game for the also-ran Azkals, whose only win in four games in Group A was against Brunei.
After the match, Schrock's teammates lifted the 36-year-old midfielder as an appreciative crowd applauded and said, “Thank you.”
It’s beginning to sink in for us too, @jadsannn.
Surely, there were ups and downs in his national team career spanning 11 years. But one cannot deny the fact Schrock has done a great deal for the Azkals program.
As he retires from national team duties, Schrock remains in his role as mentor of the Azkals Development Team.
It may be time to turn the page, but Stephan Schrock's imprint will endure in Philippine football.
