Dave Ildefonso turns sentimental as he begins his pro career in South Korea

Danny Ildefonso would be proud.

The son of the two-time PBA MVP, Dave, showed the values instilled in him as he opened up about continuing his hoops career in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).

In a lengthy Instagram post, the former Ateneo guard said that there were initial fears about playing abroad, but he knows that this step is "best" if he will look beyond himself.

"I decided to take the challenge of playing in Korea. I believe that my stint in Korea will not only benefit me but will give my family pride,” said Ildefonso

The skilled guard explained that playing overseas will also benefit Gilas Pilipinas in the long run. Ildefonso himself looks forward to coming back and sharing the lessons here in the country.

“It will be great for both our national basketball program and our professional league for young guys like me to experience first-hand the basketball culture of other countries, and eventually share that knowledge back home."

The second generation star also thanked those who helped him along the way to reach this milestone.

“I would like to thank everyone who made this basketball journey not just possible, but also with me. My family, for their unending support, the Ateneo and NU programs and the coaches who I’ve played under. My former teammates. The fans who have supported me all the way,” said Ildefonso.

A lot will be expected of Ildefonso as KT Suwon looks to continue rising up the standings after falling behind early in the season.

It's still unclear, however, when he will finally suit up. Ildefonso was still not in the lineup in their game against Ulsan yesterday. Filipino fans, for now, will have to wait.
