 France vs USA

Reigning champion USA swept France, but the win did not come easy.

First-timer in the Olympics, the home team gave the Americans a tough time, at least in the first two sets before the latter prevailed, 29-27, 29-27, 25-20.

France threatened to turn the tables in the third set and pulled to within four on Lucille Gicquel’s crosscourt shot, 23-19.

But a net touch by Leandera Olinga Andela and later, Bah Halimatou's attack error, led to France’s doom.

China vs Serbia

China bucked a sluggish start to hammer out a 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 29-27 win over Serbia.

The East Asian nation thus preserved an immaculate 3-0 tally in Pool A while relegating Serbia to third with a 1-2 slate.

Yingying Li fired 28 points including two blocks and an ace to lead China’s offensive from the get-go.

Xiangyu Gong also scored 17 while Yuanyuan Wang added 11.

However, Boskovic's offensive exploits proved futile in the end.
