The United States is back in the semifinals of the Olympics after dispatching world no. 4 Poland in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14, 25-20, in the quarterfinals of Paris 2024 women's volleyball at the South Paris Arena 1 on Wednesday, August 7 (Philippine time).

The reigning Olympic champions made quick work of the Polish behind a balanced attack led by spikers Annie Drews, Avery Skinner, and Kathryn Plummer.

Drews finished with a game-high 13 points, while Skinner and Plummer added 12 apiece.

After their dominant victory in the second set, Team USA seemingly struggled to find their footing early in the third, going down 0-5 to start the frame.

Despite this, the Americans found a way to slowly but surely climb back into the game, tying the game at 13-all after three-straight points.

The world no. 6 eventually took the lead at 15-14 after an emphatic kill block by Haleigh Washington.

The two squads then traded blows, but Plummer's back-to-back service aces gave Team USA enough momentum and cushion to secure the victory.

Agnieszka Korneluk and Martyna Lukasik paced Poland with 11 points in the defeat.

With their victory, the Americans have set up a semifinal clash with world no. 2 Brazil, their opponents back in the gold medal match in Tokyo 2020.
