The best-of-seven series is now tied at one game apiece.
TNT Tropang Giga did what they do best.
Finally regaining their outside sniping, the Tropang Giga unloaded 15-for-35 from the three-point area to beat Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 95-82, in Game 2 of the PBA Governors’ Cup finals on Wednesday.
“That helps. To be honest with you, that helps,” said TNT coach Jojo Lastimosa, whose team shot a horrible 9-for-35 from that range in the best-of-seven series opener.
Mikey Williams shot 5 triples on his way to 21 points. RR Pogoy drilled in 3 from that distance, while Jayson Castro, Calvin Oftana, and Glen Khobuntin had 2 each.
Lastimosa attributed TNT's hot shooting to import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who finished with an all-around outing of 23 points, 19 rebounds, and 9 assists.
“If he knows the guys are going to be wide open and they’re making shots, he’s more than willing to give those passes,” he said after the team tied the series at one game apiece.
“You can see Rondae, every time he drives, he’s looking for the guys because they know somehow, eventually, they’re gonna find their shots.”
Incidentally, TNT was also able to limit Ginebra’s three-point shooting to 7-fir-29 or 24.1%. Last game, the crowd favorites dropped 15 treys and drew first blood.
TNT, which lost big man Justin Chua to an ACL injury he suffered in Game 1, and Ginebra face anew in Game 3 on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
