He’s giving credit where it’s due.
Maverick Ahanmisi attributed his latest success to Converge FiberXers coach Aldin Ayo.
Under the exacting standards and watchful eye of Ayo, Ahanmisi flourished and became the undisputed leader of the FiberXers. He even registered a career-high 31 points in a 98-90 win over the Blackwater Bossing last February. Such explosions actually became regular occurences as the hotshooting Fil-Am gained Ayo's trust to pilot the Converge attack.
Even former coach Jeff Cariaso agreed that Ahanmisi was the reason for Converge's uprising last season, when the team proved to be one of the league's up-and-coming squads.
And for his fine play last season, the 6-foot-2 guard won the Most Improved Player plum during the Leo Awards on Sunday, beating out the likes of Jamie Malonzo and Don Trollano.
After the awarding ceremony, the cat-quick guard shared on his Instagram Story a photo of himself with Ayo—both with beaming smiles.
He even wrote a message for his former mentor:
"This award is yours as much as it is mine, @aldinayo," wrote Ahanmisi. "Thank you."
Oh, and there was a handshake emoji as well!

It appears all is well between the two even after Ahanmisi's seemingly unceremonious exit from Converge.
He now will don a different color this season after signing with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the offseason.
With top playmaker LA Tenorio still trying to regain top form, Ahanmisi is expected to play a major role for the defending Commissioner’s Cup champions.
