In a bid to attract fans back to the playing venues, the PBA is making a novel idea official for the upcoming 49th season of Asia’s oldest play-for-pay basketball league.

From Osaka for their annual planning session, the PBA Board approved the implementation of the “4-point shot.”

For PBA Season 49, all shots from beyond a 27-foot arc will count as four points.

“Nagawa na natin ito sa All-Star Game. With this rule, mababawasan ang zone defense, lalabas ang depensa at mas tutulin ang laro,” Alfrancis Chua said, who was elected as vice chairman.

The PBA has played with the idea of the four-point shot before, with the mechanic present during the last two All-Star Games.

Notably, the four-point shot came in handy in Bacolod earlier this year, as Robert Bolick managed to force a stalemate between Team Japeth and Team Mark by completing a five-point play.

Aside from the four-point shot, a key development from Osaka is the PBA looking at possibly building its own arena.

"We're looking at properties in Metro Manila, about two to three hectares ang laki. Malapit na itong matuloy," PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said.
