Despite coming out on the losing end of the stirring Game 2 semifinal battle against San Miguel that went to overtime, Ginebra coach Tim Cone appreciated how the match unfolded and even described it as "great."

The Gin Kings bowed to the Beermen, 125-131, in the nightcap of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup penultimate round clash at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 11.

“Great game. Both sides played well. We hit big shots; they hit bigger shots,” said Cone.

It was a nip-and-tuck contest where several players stepped up for both teams.

There was the import showdown between Justin Brownlee (39 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and four blocks) of Ginebra and San Miguel's EJ Anosike (35 points, nine rebounds, and two assists), who both logged over 50 minutes.

CJ Perez and June Mar Fajardo also delivered for the Beermen, while Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson had stellar outings for the Gin Kings.

In the end, it was San Miguel's Terrence Romeo who shone the brightest, dropping a pivotal eight straight points in the extra period that gave the Beermen a 120-117 cushion.

San Miguel never looked back from there.

“We let Romeo get away in overtime. We didn’t cover him well enough, and that’s the story of the game,” said Cone of Romeo, who also churned out 13 points in the fourth period and finished with 26.

But Cone and the Gin Kings are quickly moving on from this.

Ginebra shifts its focus on Game 3 with a chance to regain the lead in the best-of-seven series.

“It’s a great game. That’s the way it’s supposed to be in a series,” Cone said.
