Ginebra used a strong second period to beat San Miguel, 121-92, in Game 5 of their PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semifinal showdown on Friday, Oct. 18.

The Gin Kings regained the lead anew in the best-of-seven series, 3-2.

RJ Abarrientos starred for Ginebra in the convincing win, firing a career-high 28 points on a 9-for-14 scoring clip. He also had three rebounds and two assists.

After a nip-and-tuck start, the Gin Kings blitzed in the following quarter, 29-17, to take a 63-50 cushion heading into the break.

The Beermen had some bright moments after, humming on an 11-3 rally three minutes into the third period to close in, 61-66.

But the Gin Kings clamped down on defense then to restore order. San Miguel could not do anything about that.

At the 6:40 mark of the final quarter, John Pinto made it a commanding 110-81 lead after a booming triple.

It was all Ginebra from there.

Meanwhile, EJ Anosike paced San Miguel with 22 points, three rebounds and two dimes.
