The Cignal HD Spikers are on the verge of clinching a semifinals spot in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference, and one key factor in that campaign is opposite spiker Jovelyn Gonzaga.
After all, she's not new to tough combats—on and off the volleyball court.
On Monday, she shared a few photos that made fans remember why she's called the Bionic Ilongga.
She posted a throwback photo of her and PLDT High Speed Hitters' Royse Tubino in 2019. Quite noticeably, they shaved off their hair as part of their enlistment in the Philippine Army.
"Happy anniversary, chuy," Gonzaga wrote on Instagram Story, tagging Tubino.
Gonzaga, with an even shorter semi-kalbo cut, also shared a photo of training with a rifle while on the ground.
It's worth noting that Gonzaga and Tubino formerly played for the Philippine Army Lady Troopers, which opted not to join the current PVL conference.
Sarge Jovelyn has been vital for Cignal, ranking 20th among scorers with 93 points.
More importantly, her vast experience in beach volleyball has helped keep the ball alive multiple times for the HD Spikers.

Cignal is currently holding on to the fourth spot in the standings with a 7-3 record.
Gonzaga and the rest of the HD Spikers will take on the Gerflor Defenders for their final assignment in the elimination round on December 5 in a bid to secure a ticket to the semifinals.
