Mika Reyes is ecstatic to be back on the court after dealing with a shoulder injury that caused her to miss the entire 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
After sitting out the All-Filipino Conference, Mika Reyes is finally back in action for the PLDT High Speed Hitters.
Reyes contributed three points in PLDT’s five-set victory over the Creamline Cool Smashers, 16-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19, 15-12, in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, July 16.
“Matagal din naman kami nagprepare so inexpect rin namin na mahihirapan talaga makuha ‘yung panalo. But then again, ‘yung tiyaga din ng bawat isa samin, ‘yun talaga nakatulong,” Reyes told reporters after the match.
The 6-foot middle blocker had to undergo surgery in her right shoulder, which forced her to miss the 2024 All-Filipino Conference, where the High Speed Hitters finished in fifth place with an 8-3 record.
“Sabi ko ‘yung tiwala na binibigay namin sa teammates namin and coaching staff, nandun pa rin. Pero siyempre, kailangan ko pa rin iprioritize ‘yung sarili ko kasi kailangan ko maka-recover agad,” said Reyes. “So far, naka-abot ako sa timeline ko and nakalaro ako this conference."
As she made her return, the game against Creamline also marked the first time that Reyes played alongside Majoy Baron and Kim Fajardo, her former teammates at De La Salle University.
“First time ko ulit silang makasama sa totoong game pero siguro kasi since nakakasama ko na rin sila early this year parang wala rin namang pagbabago pero I’m very happy na sila kasama ko,” said Reyes.
Reyes will look to round out her form as PLDT seeks its second win in the Reinforced Conference when it faces the Galeries Tower Highrisers on Saturday, July 20.
