Winning matters and Michelle Cobb’s emotions showed it perfectly as the Akari Chargers rolled past the Nxled Chameleons for a seventh-straight win.
No Kamille Cal, no problem for the Akari Chargers thanks to Michelle Cobb.
The team captain could not hide her tears just moments after she piloted Akari’s seventh straight win in the PVL Reinforced Conference at the expense of sister team Nxled Chameleons.
“I was emotional because, like what I said in the interview, our team’s been through a lot in terms of challenges," the setter said.
With Cal out due to a minor injury, Cobb stepped up to the plate and orchestrated a four-set Chargers win via nine points and 18 excellent sets.
“It made me emotional to see that despite all the challenges, we’re still here with the support from my teammates and coaches.”
Already secured of a playoff spot, Akari buckled a slow start to regain their footing and tallied a four-set win against their sister team. It was their first battle since the blockbuster swap, which also saw coachTaka Minowa heading to the Chargers.
The slow start remained an area for concern for Minowa: “All the games I think are all the same. Ever since, the first set has been very weak. And today, it happened again.”
"We really need to fix it if we’re going to be a champion team. Because now we’re lucky,” the Japanese tactician added.
Akari eyes completing its first-ever franchise sweep against the Farm Fresh on Tuesday, August 20 at 5:00 p.m. at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
