The Akari Chargers completed a sweep of the elimination round, closing out the Farm Fresh Foxies in straight sets, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, to clinch the number one seed in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, August 20, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

This is the first time in franchise history that the Chargers will enter the PVL playoffs—and more notably as the top seed.

As a cherry on top, Akari also became the third club team to sweep a preliminary round in PVL history, joining the Creamline Cool Smashers (5 times) and Cignal HD Spikers (once).

In command for most of the game, the Chargers built a four-point lead at 15-11 in the third set after team captain and setter Michelle Cobb’s drop ball.

Farm Fresh tried everything they could to close the gap, but Akari, led by import Oly Okaro and Grethcel Soltones, had an answer every time.

Cobb sealed the Chargers’ eighth win in the conference with a smart push after a scramble between both teams.

Okaro led the charge for Akari with 18 points on 16 attacks and two blocks. Soltones added 15 points on 12 kills, one block, and two service aces, while Ivy Lacsina had 14 of her own.

Yeny Murillo finished with 14 points and Caitlin Viray had 10 markers in the loss.

The Chargers will now wait for either the Foxies or the idle Choco Mucho Flying Titans for round 1 of the playoffs.
