The Akari Chargers condemned recent threats after their controversial semifinal victory, reaffirming their commitment to player safety and sportsmanship as they head into the 2024 Reinforced Conference final.
The Akari Chargers have issued a strong statement addressing recent threats directed toward their players and coaching staff.
This comes at the heels of their controversial victory in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference semifinals.
In a statement, the Chargers expressed their deep sadness and concern over the situation.
Akari clarified that while they understand the passion that sports can incite, they firmly believe there is no place for threats or intimidation in competition or society.
“The safety and well-being of our athletes, coaches, and their families are our top priorities. We are coordinating with the proper authorities and taking immediate action to ensure their protection,” the statement read.
Down 13-14 in the fifth set, PLDT requested a challenge during a mid-rally after middle blocker Ezra Madrigal made contact with the net during a block attempt.
After reviewing the play, officials deemed the challenge unsuccessful. The PVL later confirmed the move as legal, referencing the FIVB casebook.

PLDT submitted an official complaint on Sunday morning, which they later said was rejected by the league.
Immediately after the controversial call, Akari has been on the receiving end of criticism and hate on social media.
Despite their challenges over the past few days, the Chargers vowed to remain resolute and continue competing as they eye their first-ever PVL crown.
“Our team’s commitment and determination have been unwavering throughout our difficult journey to the finals, and we will not be intimidated. We will continue to compete today with the same grit and passion that has defined our season,” the team said.
“Sports should be a unifying force, bringing us together through shared respect and love for the game. We call on all our fans to embody this spirit, remembering that respect for the game, for our opponents, and for one another is at the heart of volleyball,” it added.
Akari will face the Creamline Cool Smashers for the Reinforced Conference title at 6 p.m. at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
