The Creamline Cool Smashers extend their PVL dynasty, winning a 9th title after a convincing sweep of the Akari Chargers in the 2024 Reinforced Conference.
The dynasty continues.
The Creamline Cool Smashers extended their impeccable championship run, bagging a 9th PVL title as they battered the Akari Chargers, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17, in the 2024 Reinforced Conference Finals at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday, September 4.
Playing in their 12th Finals in front of 8,289 enthusiastic fans, the Cool Smashers used their championship experience to completely shut down the Chargers, who in contrast made their first Finals appearance in the PVL.
In the decisive third set, Creamline stormed to an early 4-0 start behind Bernadeth Pons and Michele Gumabao.
Oly Okaro and the Chargers showed their fight to cut the lead to a single point at 9-10, but the Cool Smashers took over from there, going on a 9-2 run to build an eight-point lead.
Needing just five more points to seal its second Reinforced title, Creamline turned to Pons, who scored three of the last five points before Pangs Panaga finished things off with a quick attack.
This is the first PVL Finals-clinching game to end in a sweep since 2022, when the Cool Smashers won the 2022 Invitational Conference championship in a sweep of KingWhale Taipei. This is also Creamline's first Reinforced crown since 2018.
For Akari, the Chargers settle for silver as their chance at history ends in a rather disappointing note. It was Akari's first loss of the conference, as the team entered the Finals with a 10-0 record.
Pons came up big once more with another triple double of 19 points, 12 excellent digs, and 13 excellent receptions. Staunton added 13 markers, while Gumabao had 10.
Okaro was the lone double-digit scorer for Akari with 14 points as Grethcel Soltones and Ivy Lacsina was limited to just nine and four points.
