Italian volleyball coach Ettore Guidetti is set to make his mark in the PVL as he takes the helm of the Nxled Chameleons in the upcoming 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

Known for his distinct coaching style, Guidetti brings a fresh perspective to the Nxled team, energized by the rapid growth of volleyball in the Philippines.

Talking to One Sports during the PVL Media Day before the new season, Guidetti admitted his decision to join Nxled was driven by his excitement for the Philippines’ evolving volleyball scene.

“I was super excited and super ready to start because I know here in the Philippines the volleyball movement is really developing, increasing, raising the bar, so I felt a huge energy coming here, and I really wanted to be part of that,” Guidetti shared.

Coaching the young Nxled squad, Guidetti will be tasked with restarting the team’s rebuild as they seek further improvements following their subpar campaign last season.

That’s why Guidetti's primary focus for the new season is to foster a positive training environment that motivates his players.

“My main goal is to make the girls [aim] to have practice the next day,” said Guidetti. “This is something that is looking like it’s working.”

“They like my Italian style [of coaching], and they are happy to come to practice, so this is the first goal that I am trying to achieve day by day,” he added.

But what exactly is this Italian style of coaching?

“We, as Italians, we love to study, so we love to know different styles all around the world. I know there is a Brazilian way, American way, Russian way—we love to mix, we love to use all the best or what we think is the best,” Guidetti explained.

The difference between us and the other workers in the world is people are going to work, we play volleyball. So as long as you play, you need to have fun,” he added.

As a first-time PVL coach, Guidetti admits he's still assessing the competition, not wanting to set a definite goal for the team just yet. Still, his hope for the Chameleons is simple.

“Honestly, it’s something that I cannot forecast first of all because I am the rookie of the conference, so I don’t know exactly the real values of the other teams,” said Guidetti. “The only thing that I really hope from my team is that they try to be aggressive every single game and try to win against super good teams.”
