MVP and all, Michele Gumabao remains grounded.

Beyond fulfilling their Grand Slam dreams, Michele Gumabao achieved a momentous personal milestone when the team completed a title sweep during the 2024 PVL season.

With the Creamline Cool Smashers celebrating their triple crown, Gumabao also finally took the reins as Queen Spiker, winning Most Valuable Player in the Invitational Conference, the first of her decorated PVL career.

But as the Cool Smashers star basks in her remarkable accomplishments, Michele remains grounded, her eyes set firmly on many future aspirations.

In another edition of Off the Record, Gumabao opens up about the emotions that accompanied her breakthrough MVP victory in the PVL, sharing her inspiring mindset as she prepares for the upcoming season.

One Sports: What do you think will change for you after winning the MVP?

Michele: I think after winning the MVP, ‘yong pressure lagi naman siyang nandyan. Siguro blessed lang ako na I was able to perform well in one conference. Pero 'yong totoong laban is next conference.

One Sports: How do you plan to approach the new season after your past successes?”

Michele: Kinakalimutan namin ‘yong past. Achievements, championship, tapos na ‘yon. This is a new season. It’s going to be a new challenge for us. And panibagong hard work na naman ang ipapakita namin.

(MG the MVP is a thing of the past now, as far as Michele Gumabao is concerned)

One Sports: What aspects do you hope to enhance in the upcoming conference?

Michele: “Growth in maturity. Siguro kailangan mas kalmado para hindi makita ng mga teammates ko kapag ikaw ang nara-rattle or ikaw ‘yong nape-pressure. You have to be more mature and I really had to also to fight for more consistency din kasi. I think that’s one of the things that I personally struggle [with].”
